Our History

1968

Our Founding
Our Founding

In 1968, the sole proprietorship TORFS CYRIEL was founded by Cyriel Torfs and his wife Emma Van der Auwera.

At the time, the company’s business consisted mainly of manufacturing machinery for the agricultural and horticultural sectors, such as tomato sorters, vegetable washing machines for leeks, carrots, and celeriac, pot presses for forming potting soil cubes, sprayers, etc. At that time, we also collaborated with the technical department of Boerenbond Leuven (Leuven Agricultural Union). Our company was contacted for the supply of aluminum roofing slats and for the manufacture and delivery of several parts for their greenhouse.

International Cooperation

In the early 1970s, a cooperation was established with a Dutch company that would market our
elongated cucumber sorting machine equipped with 20 to 28 mobile scales on the Dutch market.

Our two models, “Econoom” and “Mammoet,” were very successful. These machines were tested by the Wageningen Institute of Horticultural Technology (Netherlands), which issued them Certificate No. 7207 in August 1972 with an “overall evaluation.” Companies that could present such a certificate enjoyed the full confidence of their customers.

In addition to the design and manufacture of these machines, our activities also included welding, turning, and milling work, as well as various repair and maintenance work.

Entry into the Automotive Industry
Entry into the Automotive Industry

At that time, our activities in the agricultural sector also declined, allowing us to focus our expertise on the automotive sector without losing sight of other market segments. We produced various manipulators (batteries, safes, etc.), as well as a 2-ton transport pallet for a particle accelerator in a reprocessing plant in the United States, among many other projects.
